BYD is searching for an existing automotive factory to serve as its second European assembly plant. The Chinese EV maker is focusing its search on Southern Europe, with Spain currently on the shortlist.
Executive Vice President Stella Li confirmed the company prefers a brownfield site to accelerate local production. This strategy aims to mitigate the impact of EU tariffs on Chinese-made vehicle imports.
The company expects its first European factory in Hungary to begin production in the fourth quarter of 2026. BYD has paused plans for a factory in Turkey to prioritize manufacturing within the EU.
