Texas Department of Motor Vehicles filings show Tesla registered 42 automated vehicles for its Robotaxi service.

Competitor Waymo registered 577 authorized robotaxis in the state. This gap leaves Tesla with a notably smaller fleet in this key market.

The data became public under a new Texas law that took effect on May 28, 2026. The law mandates that commercial driverless operators self-certify vehicles to SAE Level 4 autonomy standards.

Tesla has operated its Robotaxi-branded service in Texas since June 2025. The company previously told regulators that most of its vehicles feature Level 2 driver assistance systems.
