American Airlines is overhauling its narrowbody fleet to increase premium seating and reintroduce seatback entertainment screens. The airline will retrofit Airbus A319 and A320 aircraft with additional first-class seats. New Boeing 737 MAX 10 jets will also feature expanded premium cabins.
This strategic shift aims to capture high-margin revenue from corporate and premium travelers. American intends to increase the share of premium seats on domestic aircraft to 40%. The current premium seat share stands at approximately 25%.
Seatback screen installations will begin in 2028. This move reverses a previous strategy and aligns American’s offerings with competitors Delta and United.
