Apple filed a legal challenge in July against the UK government’s attempt to access encrypted customer data. The company is contesting a technical capability notice (TCN) issued under the Investigatory Powers Act.

This notice would compel Apple to create a backdoor to access encrypted information, including cloud backups. Apple argues that creating such access points would weaken security for all its users.

The company previously disabled specific security features for UK customers in response to similar pressures. UK officials maintain these powers are essential for investigating serious crimes like terrorism and child sexual abuse.
