Apple appointed Nate Gatten as its new vice president of government affairs. He will begin the role on August 31.

Gatten will lead lobbying and policy initiatives for the iPhone maker across the Americas. He previously managed government affairs for American Airlines Group Inc. and JPMorgan Chase & Co.

The strategic hire aims to strengthen Apple's relationships with the Republican party. Sources familiar with the matter state the company sought an executive to align with a potential Trump administration.
