This move is a departure from Apple's usual strategy of discounting older devices when new ones are released. The increase is being attributed to rising component costs for parts like memory and storage, a situation former CEO Tim Cook had previously described as unavoidable. The new iPhone 18 Pro models also saw a $100 price increase compared to their predecessors.
