Apple Inc. and the U.S. Department of Justice have entered preliminary discussions to settle a major antitrust lawsuit filed in March 2024. The government accuses Apple of illegally monopolizing the smartphone market by suppressing technologies that facilitate competition.
The complaint alleges Apple blocked innovative super apps and suppressed mobile cloud streaming services. Federal regulators also claim the company intentionally diminished the functionality of non-Apple smartwatches and digital wallets.
Settlement talks remain in an early stage with no guarantee of a final agreement. The court has not yet scheduled a trial date for the case.
