Apple updated its Maps service to rename Lake Ontario as Lake America for users in the United States. This follows a similar change implemented by Google over the weekend.
President Donald Trump issued an executive order on August 27 to rename the lake. The move is part of an escalating trade dispute with Canada.
Reports state President Trump personally contacted Apple to request the modification. Google aligned its maps with the U.S. Geographic Names Information System (GNIS), which was officially changed by the order.
Apple and Google Maps will continue to display the name Lake Ontario for users in Canada. International users will see both names.
