Italy's Competition Authority (AGCM) launched an investigation into Apple on Tuesday for potential Digital Markets Act (DMA) violations.

The probe examines whether Apple provides its iCloud service an unfair advantage over third-party cloud storage providers on iOS and iPadOS.

Regulators suspect competing services lack equal access to hardware and software features available to iCloud. The AGCM specifically noted that Apple restricts rival services from performing full device backups.

This marks Italy's first investigation under the DMA framework. The AGCM is conducting the probe in close cooperation with the European Commission.
