Italian group adventure travel startup WeRoad has raised $58 million in a Series C funding round led by Airbnb. The new capital, which also included participation from existing investors, brings WeRoad's total funding to approximately $100 million. The investment marks Airbnb's first direct backing of a travel-tech platform focused on group experiences.
The funds are earmarked for WeRoad's first significant expansion outside of Europe, with a planned entry into the U.S. market. Since its founding in 2017, the Milan-based company has catered to over 300,000 travelers, primarily millennials and Gen Z, by organizing curated group trips. In a related move, WeRoad's CEO, Andrea D'Amico, will join Airbnb as VP of hotels while remaining a board member at WeRoad.
