Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd. announced plans for a 100-acre container freight station. The company revealed the project details on July 27, 2026.
The facility supports the start of import-export operations on August 18. This infrastructure allows the port to handle consolidated cargo instead of only full-load containers.
The development positions Vizhinjam to compete with the port of Colombo in Sri Lanka for transshipment. The station will serve as a sorting center to increase cargo processing efficiency.
Textile and engineering manufacturers in Tamil Nadu expect the hub to provide faster trade routes. The facility offers a more efficient alternative to existing ports in Chennai and Tuticorin.
