Airbus secured a firm order from AirAsia for 150 A220-300 aircraft. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney attended the signing ceremony in Mirabel, Canada. This deal represents the largest single commitment in the history of the A220 program. Total firm orders for the aircraft now exceed 1,000 units.

The agreement provides a critical lifeline for the A220 program. The aircraft originated as the Bombardier CSeries and remains unprofitable under Airbus ownership. AirAsia represents a major new low-cost carrier endorsement for the narrowbody jet.

AirAsia currently operates an all-Airbus A320 family fleet. The smaller A220 allows the airline to service thinner routes efficiently. This acquisition supports AirAsia’s expansion into new markets across Asia.
