Airbus finalized a contract with Italy’s Ministry of Defense for six A330 Multi-Role Tanker Transport (MRTT) aircraft. The agreement carries a total value of approximately €1.4 billion ($1.6 billion). European Union public procurement documents confirmed the transaction.
The deal will enhance Italy’s aerial refueling and strategic military transport capabilities. This selection marks a significant shift from Italy’s prior interest in the Boeing KC-46 Pegasus.
The contract reinforces the A330 MRTT’s position within the global military market. Several NATO members and allied air forces already utilize this aircraft model.
