Akamai Technologies (AKAM) has agreed to acquire Israeli cybersecurity startup LayerX Security for approximately $205 million in cash. The deal is designed to enhance Akamai's Zero Trust security portfolio by adding controls at the browser level, addressing the risks from employees using generative AI tools, SaaS applications, and AI agents.
LayerX's technology provides visibility and governance over user interactions with AI and web applications directly within popular browsers, eliminating the need for a separate, dedicated enterprise browser. The acquisition aims to meet customer demand for better security as AI adoption accelerates in the enterprise. The transaction is expected to close in the third quarter of 2026 and will be slightly dilutive to Akamai's non-GAAP earnings per share for the fiscal year.
