Amgen reported that its cholesterol drug Repatha (evolocumab) reduced all-cause death risk by 20% in high-risk adults. The Phase 3 VESALIUS-CV trial focused on patients without a history of heart attack or stroke.

Researchers presented the findings at the European Society of Cardiology Congress and published results in the journal Circulation. The pre-specified analysis followed more than 12,000 patients.

Mortality benefits began to emerge after approximately 1.5 years of treatment. Repatha is now the first PCSK9 inhibitor to demonstrate a death risk reduction in this primary prevention group. This data supports broader use of the drug for high-risk individuals.
