Amazon Leo will enter the South African market through a partnership with local provider Herotel. The service will launch commercially in 2027. Amazon will use the brand name evry for the rollout.
The venture targets rural households and businesses lacking traditional network access. This partnership bypasses ownership regulations that currently block SpaceX’s Starlink. Herotel will serve as the distributor to meet the 30% local ownership requirement. The initiative aims to provide connectivity to millions of citizens in remote communities.
