Amazon Web Services (AWS) customers reported massive billing errors on Friday. Estimated costs in the billing console reached billions and trillions of dollars for low-cost services.
The glitch sparked global confusion as users shared screenshots of the inaccurate charges on social media. AWS confirmed the issue through its Health Dashboard.
The company attributed the error to unit pricing issues within the estimated billing computation subsystem. AWS clarified that the glitch only affected the estimation tool and did not impact actual usage metering or final charges.
Amazon is currently recomputing the estimated billing data to resolve the discrepancy.
