AST SpaceMobile and SpaceX are reportedly interested in acquiring 800 MHz wireless spectrum licenses from Grain Management LLC. The licenses carry an estimated value of $6 billion.
This spectrum is considered essential for providing wireless phone services directly from satellites. The potential acquisition follows a separate spectrum swap between Grain Management and T-Mobile earlier this month.
The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has approved the transaction. The agency set a bidding deadline for November 5.
However, SpaceX CEO Elon Musk has disputed the reports. Musk stated on social media that the story is not true.
