AstraZeneca and HUTCHMED reported positive results from the SANOVO Phase III trial in China. The study evaluated Tagrisso (osimertinib) combined with Orpathys (savolitinib) as a first-line treatment. This trial targeted patients with locally advanced or metastatic non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).
The trial met its primary endpoint by demonstrating a statistically significant improvement in progression-free survival compared to Tagrisso monotherapy. Patients with EGFR-mutated NSCLC and MET overexpression showed clinical benefit from the combination.
The safety profile remained consistent with the individual drugs. No new safety concerns were identified during the study.
Targeting both EGFR and MET pathways simultaneously may establish a new treatment standard for this patient population. AstraZeneca will present full data at an upcoming medical meeting and share results with regulatory authorities.
