Boeing will begin a civil trial in Chicago federal court on May 4, 2026. The proceedings concern the March 2019 crash of a 737 MAX in Ethiopia. The family of an American victim brought this suit, which is one of the last of 155 original cases.

Boeing has settled the majority of civil claims related to the 737 MAX. The disasters in Indonesia and Ethiopia claimed 346 lives in total. This trial seeks financial compensation rather than criminal penalties.

Jury selection will occur on May 4 and 5. Opening statements will follow on May 6. The 737 MAX crisis caused significant leadership changes and years of financial losses.
