The proposal affects 453 U.S.-registered airplanes, including the 737-8, 737-9, and 737-8200 models. Improperly engaged aft fitting shear plungers could cause seats to detach during turbulence or emergency landings.
Loose seats pose a risk of passenger injury and may block emergency evacuation routes. Boeing indicated that warranty coverage may apply to airline costs for these inspections and corrections.
This directive is a proposal for inspections rather than a grounding order. The public has until September 10, 2026, to comment on the proposed directive.
