Boeing will begin production on a new 737 MAX final assembly line in Everett, Washington, on July 6. CEO Kelly Ortberg noted this is the first time the 737 family will be assembled outside of Renton. The facility serves as the company's fourth 737 production line.
The expansion supports Boeing's plan to increase output following intense regulatory scrutiny. The company currently builds 47 MAX jets per month. This new line is expected to help increase the monthly production rate to 52 aircraft next year.
The first plane scheduled for the new line is the 737 MAX 10. This model is the largest variant of the aircraft.
