Boeing is finalizing FAA approval for a redesigned 737 MAX engine anti-ice system. This certification remains the primary hurdle for delivering the long-delayed MAX 7 and MAX 10 models.
The redesign prevents engine housings from overheating and potentially breaking apart in dry conditions. Safety concerns and heightened regulatory oversight delayed these variants for years.
The FAA indicated in May that certification is approaching. The agency expects to certify the MAX 7 this summer. The MAX 10 has completed 98% of its flight testing. Certification for the larger MAX 10 is expected to follow shortly after.
