In a significant portfolio shift, Renaissance Technologies, the quantitative hedge fund founded by Jim Simons, reduced its holding in Boeing (BA) by nearly 85% during the second quarter of 2026. According to regulatory filings, the firm sold an estimated $170.73 million worth of the aerospace giant's stock, cutting its position from over 931,000 shares to approximately 143,000. This trade is disclosed in a delayed 13F filing, which reports positions held as of June 30, 2026.
The reduction comes after a quarter where Boeing reported increased revenue and its highest quarterly aircraft delivery volume since 2018. Despite these operational improvements, the company still posted a loss per share for the quarter. Renaissance Technologies has not publicly commented on the reason for this substantial sell-off, which represents a notable reversal from the first quarter when the firm had increased its Boeing holdings.
