British American Tobacco (BAT) is restructuring its global workforce to impact approximately 9,000 employees. This figure represents nearly 20% of the company's total staff.

The plan involves cutting 5,500 positions. BAT will transfer an additional 3,500 roles to third-party partners including Accenture. This overhaul excludes the United States market.

The company is pursuing an AI-driven transformation to increase agility. This shift addresses declining cigarette sales as BAT focuses on alternatives like Vuse vapes.

The program aims to generate £600 million ($793 million) in annualized cost savings. BAT expects to achieve these results by the end of 2028.
