BMW has entered the final development phase for its fifth-generation X5. Testing is currently underway near the company's production plant in Spartanburg, USA.
The new X5 is the first BMW model to offer five different drive system technologies. The lineup features the first fully electric BMW iX5 using sixth-generation eDrive technology. This electric variant utilizes an 800V architecture and the largest high-voltage battery in BMW history.
The flagship iX5 60 xDrive dual-motor setup produces 425 kW (578 hp). Petrol and diesel variants will include 48V mild-hybrid technology. The range also includes plug-in hybrid models like the X5 50e xDrive.
BMW confirmed its first series-production hydrogen model, the iX5 Hydrogen, will arrive in 2028. The new generation features a redesigned interior with the latest iDrive infotainment system. Advanced driver assistance technology is integrated throughout the lineup.
