Berkshire Hathaway has designated Charlie Shamieh as the eventual successor to insurance head Ajit Jain. Shamieh currently serves as the Chairman of the company's General Reinsurance unit.

The Wall Street Journal first reported the appointment, which clarifies a key part of the conglomerate's long-term succession plan. Jain, 74, built the insurance division into a core generator of investment float.

While no specific timeline for Jain's retirement has been announced, the move signals leadership continuity for investors. Berkshire Hathaway has not officially commented on the designation.
