BWX Technologies (BWXT) granted Applied Atomics an exclusive license to develop and deploy its mPower small modular reactor (SMR) technology. This agreement revives the mPower program, which BWXT suspended in 2017.
The partnership targets rising clean energy demand, specifically for data center power needs. Applied Atomics will lead commercialization and re-engage with the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission for design certification.
BWXT retains ownership of the mPower intellectual property. The company holds exclusive rights to manufacture all mPower components.
BWXT will receive royalties on components produced by Applied Atomics or third parties. This structure establishes a long-term revenue stream for the company.
