Northland Securities upgraded Ciena (NYSE: CIEN) to an "Outperform" rating. The firm previously rated Ciena as "Market Perform." Northland increased Ciena's price target to $500 per share. The previous price target was $450 per share. The upgrade follows a recent pullback in Ciena's stock price from previous highs.

Northland based its decision on signs of a larger market opportunity. It also cited strong results from key component supplier Lumentum. Northland noted Lumentum plans to significantly expand production capacity for critical parts, including pump lasers. This expansion is expected to support Ciena’s growth in serving telecom carriers, cloud providers, and hyperscalers, particularly for AI data centers.
