Texas regulators approved a new framework for connecting large electricity users to the state power grid. The Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) will now process connection requests in batches through a system called Batch Zero. This replaces the previous project-by-project method to address overwhelming demand.

Data centers account for nearly 90% of all large-load connection requests. These requests currently total 438 gigawatts of power. The new process allows ERCOT to better assess total demand and identify necessary transmission upgrades.

Cipher Mining shares reached a new all-time high following the regulatory update. The company is currently utilizing its Texas facilities to expand into artificial intelligence and high-performance computing.
