NBCUniversal has started site preparation for the Universal United Kingdom Resort, its first theme park in Europe. The 476-acre project occupies a former industrial site in Bedfordshire, located 45 minutes from London.

Comcast is investing more than $8 billion during the initial five-year construction phase. The development includes a world-class theme park, a 500-room hotel, and a retail and entertainment complex.

The UK government committed over $1.2 billion to fund infrastructure improvements for the resort. Universal Destinations & Experiences targets a 2031 opening date for the project. The resort will create thousands of jobs and establish a major new tourist destination for the company.
