Comcast launched Xfinity Shield, a new platform providing cybersecurity and home monitoring for internet customers. The service includes WiFi Motion, an opt-in feature available at no additional cost.

WiFi Motion detects movement by sensing disruptions in radio frequency signals through the Xfinity Gateway and connected devices. This technology eliminates the need for physical cameras within the home.

Comcast designed the service to increase broadband value and improve customer retention within a highly competitive market.

The system does not record video or identify specific individuals. However, Comcast’s terms allow the collection of motion data and potential disclosure to third parties during legal proceedings.
