Coinbase has launched regulated cryptocurrency derivatives trading for institutional and sophisticated investors in Canada. The platform offers 23 perpetual and dated futures contracts for assets including Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Solana. Traders can access leverage of up to 10x on these products.
Coinbase is the first major crypto-native platform to provide direct access to these regulated products in Canada. Coinbase Financial Markets provides the offering under a Canadian regulatory exemption. The entity also maintains registration with the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission.
The expansion includes five commodity futures covering gold and oil alongside index futures. This move aims to migrate Canadian trading volume from unregulated offshore platforms to a regulated environment. The launch supports Coinbase’s broader strategy to increase its international footprint through professional hedging tools.
