Coupang faces special tax evasion probe, Seoul targets headquarters after subsidiary audit

South Korea’s National Tax Service (NTS) launched a special tax investigation into e-commerce giant Coupang over suspected tax evasion. The Seoul Regional Tax Service’s Investigation Bureau 4 is leading the probe. This unit typically handles non-routine and high-stakes audits.

The investigation follows a prior audit of Coupang Fulfillment Services, the company’s logistics subsidiary. Authorities reportedly discovered evidence of tax evasion linked to Coupang’s main headquarters during that initial review. This discovery prompted the current, broader investigation into the parent company.
