CVS Health CEO David Joyner told the Washington Post that broad insurance coverage for GLP-1 weight-loss drugs remains economically unfeasible for employers.
Joyner stated that medications like Wegovy and Zepbound lack sufficient evidence to prove downstream medical savings justify their high costs.
Manufacturers currently set list prices for these drugs at more than $1,000 per month.
While CVS Caremark negotiates rebates, Joyner noted that corporate clients still face significant financial barriers to providing coverage.
Broader coverage depends on future price decreases and clearer data demonstrating a return on investment through reduced hospitalizations.
