Portuguese construction giant Mota-Engil is expanding its partnership with Brazil’s Odebrecht for future infrastructure contracts. The two companies recently secured the Rota dos Sertões highway concession in May. This project involves projected investments and costs of approximately US$1.7 billion.
Reports of Mota-Engil acquiring a 40% stake in Odebrecht’s engineering arm are not imminent. No due diligence is currently underway for that transaction.
Separately, Mota-Engil is finalizing the acquisition of Bahia Mineração (Bamin). This deal provides control of the Pedra de Ferro iron ore project. The acquisition includes a section of the West-East Integration Railway (Fiol) and the Porto Sul development. These projects require estimated investments of approximately US$5 billion.
