Southern California Edison (SCE) announced that federal legislation providing tax relief for Eaton Fire victims is poised to become law. The bipartisan bill excludes qualified wildfire relief payments from gross income, making SCE fund compensation free from federal income tax.
The development provides certainty for participants in SCE’s Wildfire Recovery Compensation Program. The program maintains a claim submission deadline of November 30, 2026.
As of August 14, SCE has paid nearly 2,800 claimants a total exceeding $410 million. Total offers extended through the program currently exceed $820 million. This legislative step aims to encourage participation and streamline the resolution of wildfire-related claims.
