Global investment group La Caisse announced it has invested approximately INR 121 billion (CAD 1.76 billion) to acquire a 24% stake in Altius Telecom Infrastructure Trust, India's largest independent telecom tower platform. Following the transaction, Brookfield remains the majority investor in Altius, alongside other existing shareholders GIC and British Columbia Investment Management Corporation (BCI).
The investment gives La Caisse a significant holding in a platform that owns and operates over 258,000 telecom towers and sites across India. This infrastructure is critical for mobile operators delivering 4G and 5G services in what is the world's second-largest telecommunications market. The deal highlights the increasing demand for digital infrastructure needed to support continued growth in mobile data consumption and the ongoing 5G rollout.
