Meta Platforms settled the first school district lawsuit scheduled for trial on May 22, 2026. This bellwether case involved claims that social media platforms fueled a youth mental health crisis.

Kentucky’s Breathitt County School District originally sought over $60 million in damages. The agreement follows previous settlements by co-defendants YouTube, Snap, and TikTok.

Financial terms of the settlement remain undisclosed. Legal analysts view the deal as a benchmark for approximately 1,200 similar lawsuits nationwide.

Major school systems currently pursuing litigation include DeKalb County and New York City.
