Shares cratered 12.6% to $47.29 after Fiserv delivered a second quarter that missed on both earnings and the adjusted revenue line, then slashed its full-year forecast — extending a punishing decline that has now erased roughly 60% of the stock's value over the past twelve months.
Both Business Lines Are Shrinking, Not Just One
Organic revenue fell 5% in Q2, with the Merchant Solutions segment down 1% and the Financial Solutions segment down 8% year over year. That breadth matters: weakness appeared broad-based, with both segments falling short of expectations.
Key headwinds included macroeconomic conditions in Argentina, delayed client implementation ramps, and hardware revenue softness. When every major division is contracting simultaneously, management's explanation that this is a "trough" quarter requires an unusual leap of faith.
The Guidance Cut Outran the Stock Drop
Fiserv slashed its 2026 adjusted earnings forecast to $7.20–$7.40 from $8.00–$8.30 — a 10.4% decrease at the midpoint.
It now expects organic revenue between a 1% decline and flat, compared with its previous forecast for growth of 1%–3%.
The earnings midpoint dropped by 10.4%, outpacing the decline in share price and undercutting the most basic bargain argument — meaning the stock actually got more expensive relative to its updated earnings power, not cheaper.
Cash Flow Is the Lone Bright Spot — But It's Dimming
Fiserv reported $1.1 billion in free cash flow with 112% conversion in Q2. Yet free cash flow for the first six months declined to $1.36 billion from $1.55 billion a year ago. Strong cash generation buys time, but a deteriorating trajectory undermines the argument that the company can invest its way back to growth while returning capital to shareholders.
Wall Street Credibility Is Running Thin
Seaport Research analyst Jeff Cantwell called the report "strike twelve," underscoring a pattern of repeated misses followed by lowered forecasts. The guidance cut follows a similarly dramatic downgrade in 2025 that contributed to a 67% share-price collapse that year.
Management projects 4%–6% organic revenue growth from 2027 to 2029 , but after serial resets, investors are pricing in execution risk, not aspirations. Until results validate the turnaround narrative, Fiserv's stock price will remain a referendum on trust.
