Freddie Mac will retire its Streamlined Review option for condominium loans starting August 3, 2026. This policy change aligns with similar measures recently adopted by Fannie Mae. The update shifts oversight toward the financial health and physical condition of entire condominium projects.

Previously, loans involving large down payments often qualified for less demanding review processes. Under the new mandate, these applications will generally require a Full Review. This examination scrutinizes association budgets, cash reserves, insurance coverage, and potential litigation.

The transition may create financing challenges for units in projects with insufficient funding or deferred maintenance.
