GE Vernova Hitachi Nuclear Energy will provide BWRX-300 small modular reactors for a new power plant in Southeast Ohio. Independent developer Elementl Power is leading the project.

The facility will reach a total capacity of up to 1.5 gigawatts. Elementl Power signed an Early Works Agreement with GE Vernova Hitachi to initiate the development.

This initiative represents one of the first new SMR projects announced in the United States. Construction on the first unit is scheduled to begin in 2030.

The project is expected to create thousands of jobs in Ohio during construction and operation. Final development depends on regulatory approvals and a final investment decision.
