Glencore advanced its U.S. gas trading strategy following the final investment decision for the Commonwealth LNG export facility in Louisiana.

The project secured $9.75 billion in financing. It will produce 9.5 million tonnes of LNG per year. Operations are scheduled to begin in 2030.

Glencore agreed to purchase 3 million tonnes annually. This volume represents nearly one-third of the plant's total output.

Glencore shares fell 2.75% following the announcement. Analysts attribute the decline to investors prioritizing immediate cash returns over long-term capital projects.
