Google unveiled WeatherNext 3, a new artificial intelligence model for weather forecasting. Google's DeepMind and Research divisions developed the model.
The model provides hourly updates. This significantly increases frequency from its predecessor, WeatherNext 2, which offered six-hour intervals.
WeatherNext 3 processes raw satellite imagery. It generates forecasts at a much higher resolution. Some variables detail down to a 5-kilometer grid.
Google is integrating the enhanced model into consumer products. These include Google Search, Maps, and the Gemini app.
WeatherNext 3 introduces new capabilities for industries. It forecasts variables relevant to renewable energy. These include wind speeds at turbine heights and solar radiation for solar farms.
Google will make the service available to enterprise clients and researchers. It will be accessible through Google Cloud platforms like BigQuery and Earth Engine.
