Britain’s Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) proposed new rules allowing app developers to direct users toward alternative payment options outside official stores. This move follows the UK’s Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers (DMCC) Act.

The regulator aims to increase competition and lower the commission fees developers currently pay. Any platform fees for steering users must be fair, reasonable, and lower than existing rates.

These changes could lower prices for consumers or allow developers to reinvest savings. Google stated it has already implemented these changes through Play Store terms introduced in June 2026.
