Alphabet’s Google announced a potential $40 billion investment in AI startup Anthropic. The agreement includes an initial $10 billion cash injection. An additional $30 billion may follow if specific performance targets are met. Alphabet shares rose during midday trading on Friday following the news.
The announcement followed the conclusion of the Google Cloud Next conference. Google introduced its 8th-generation Tensor Processing Units (TPUs) featuring specialized chips for training and inference. The company also launched the Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform to simplify business AI deployment.
Google reaffirmed a massive capital expenditure target of $175 billion to $185 billion for 2026. This spending will support the ongoing buildout of the company's AI infrastructure.
