Google faces a wave of private lawsuits from rivals seeking damages totaling up to $10 billion. The European Commission fined the company €890 million on July 23 for breaching the Digital Markets Act. Regulators found that Google favored its own services in search results and restricted developers on Google Play.
The EU ruling establishes liability, allowing competitors to leverage the decision in national courts to focus on damages. Sweden’s PriceRunner recently secured a $1.97 billion judgment against the company. Germany’s Idealo won a €465 million award. Italy’s Moltiply Group is currently seeking nearly €3 billion in its own claim.
Google stated it disagrees with the ongoing lawsuits.
