The European Union is preparing a fine against Alphabet’s Google totaling several hundred million euros. This penalty marks the largest-ever fine issued under the Digital Markets Act (DMA).
Handelsblatt and Reuters first reported the antitrust decision, which stems from allegations that Google unfairly prioritizes its own services in search results. The European Commission expects to finalize the decision before the summer break.
Regulators issued the penalty after determining that Google's previous compliance proposals were insufficient. U.S. markets remained closed for a holiday on May 25, resulting in no immediate stock reaction.
