A Swedish court ordered Alphabet’s Google to pay between $1.5 billion and $1.97 billion in antitrust damages to PriceRunner. The Stockholm Patent and Market Court found that Google abused its dominant position by favoring its own comparison shopping service in search results.

The ruling is the largest competition case in Swedish history. It stems from a 2022 lawsuit filed by PriceRunner, a price-comparison service owned by the fintech company Klarna. This case follows a 2017 EU antitrust decision that previously found Google's self-preferencing practices to be illegal.

Klarna stated the ruling supports a healthier and more competitive market. Google disagrees with the court's decision and is currently considering a potential appeal.
