Google agreed to a £260 million ($353.21 million) settlement to resolve a London lawsuit involving UK app developers.
The lawsuit alleged Google abused its market dominance by charging a 30% commission on Play Store sales. This agreement avoids a trial that was scheduled to begin next month.
The Competition Appeal Tribunal must still approve the proposed deal. Google does not admit to any liability or wrongdoing under the settlement terms.
A £160 million fund will compensate developers for sales on the Play Store. This compensation covers the period between August 2018 and July 2026. The remaining £100 million covers legal and funding costs for the lawsuit.
Lead claimants described the settlement as a major victory for developers unable to challenge Google individually.
